OUR PHILOSOPHY & PRINCIPLES

Our Approach

“Poverty forces choices on women and children that no one should have to make. ACT exists to replace those circumstances with opportunity, through education, livelihood and health, so people can transform their own lives”

CIRCUMSTANCE, NOT CHOICE

Why We Started Animedh Charitable Trust

We started Animedh Charitable Trust in Mumbai in 2012 because of something we kept seeing: in the underserved sections of our society, the lives of women and children are often shaped by circumstance, not by choice.

In low-income homes in urban slums and tribal communities, deprivations don’t come one at a time. When a family lacks income, children miss school. Without education, there are few skills and little work. Without basic healthcare, any setback becomes a crisis.

These gaps feed one another and pass from one generation to the next. Women and children carry most of the weight. They make up a large share of India’s population, yet they remain among the poorest, most marginalised and most excluded.

People Who Need Help Become the People Who Lead Change

“We don’t accept that this has to continue. We believe that when people get access to knowledge, skills and opportunity, they can change their own lives, and the people who need help become the people who lead change.”

Our Pledge

Our pledge is to Act to make a difference to the underserved children, youth, women and communities around us by:

01

Resilient & Just Society

Contributing to a resilient, sustainable and just society for all.

02

Fostering Personal Capacity

Fostering each person’s capacity by building self-awareness, personal development, education and livelihood skills.

03

Resources & Key Connections

Facilitating the knowledge, resources and key connections people need to empower themselves and move forward.

Our Role

As civil society, we see our role as helping people achieve their own dreams of education, healthcare and livelihood, and working for their inclusion, well-being and social justice.

Through grassroots engagement, strong partnerships and a focus on impact, we keep growing our work across urban, rural and tribal India. Because lasting change doesn’t happen to people. It happens with them.
