About the Project

Poshan ki Disha is a community-driven initiative dedicated to strengthening maternal and child nutrition in the tribal hamlets of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH). By focusing on the crucial first 1,000 days of life—from conception to a child’s second birthday—the project addresses the root causes of child stunting and chronic malnutrition.

ACT works closely with local health systems, Anganwadi workers, and community members to ensure that mothers and young children receive the care, nutrition, and guidance they need for healthy physical and cognitive development.

Core Focus Areas

✓ Maternal Nutrition & Health: Ensuring expectant and lactating mothers have access to balanced diets, micronutrient supplements, and regular antenatal and postnatal care.
✓ Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF): Promoting early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and the timely introduction of nutrient-rich complementary foods.
✓ Community Awareness & Behavioral Change: Conducting nutrition education sessions, cooking demonstrations using locally available, nutritious ingredients, and engaging families to challenge harmful feeding practices.
✓ Growth Monitoring & Early Intervention: Tracking children’s growth milestones to detect signs of undernutrition or developmental delays early, facilitating timely support and referrals.
✓ System Strengthening: Collaborating with Anganwadi centres and grassroots health workers to improve service delivery and community outreach.
