Season's Greetings to our beloved stakeholders - donors, partners, champions, beneficiaries, volunteers and ACTers!

ANIMEDH CHARITABLE TRUST (ACT) hits a huge milestone as we complete seven glorious years in December this year! What started as a small but significant journey to work with women and children marching towards education and empowerment has emerged stronger with every passing year, thanks to each and every one of you! ACT's Study Buddy programme in English and Computers and fee sponsorships are ongoing and have seen repeated success in the past few years. ACT's vocational programmes - Saksham, Donna, and Samruddhi for Adivasi women - are bearing great outcomes with many women skilled and earning increasing income. With greater faith and confidence, as we open the next innings I'm proud and humbled to share that our relationships and partnerships have strengthened and endured the test of time, while new projects and responsibilities are now taking us pan-India. ACT recently joined hands with water.org as implementation partner for WASH Awareness Program in August 2019. water.org is a global non-profit organization working to bring water and sanitation to the world. It helps people get access to safe water and sanitation through affordable financing, such as small loans. The partnership aims to empower people in need with these life-changing resources - giving women hope, children health and families a bright future.

We wish you happy holidays and warmest wishes for Vision 2020! Be a rainbow in someone else's cloud! Donate now towards education and women empowerment!

Scholarships:

A happy and joyous day for beneficiary artisan women and us when we announced scholarships for their children. A recent impact study initiated by 2nd Innings Handicrafts Pvt. Ltd. revealed that the biggest concerns in the women's lives were family health, children's education and post-retirement costs and well-being. Scholarships worth INR 2,20,000 were awarded towards their children's school fees, books, uniforms, etc. through this initiative, thanks to Pianoterra Foundation.

Eye Checkup Camp:

ACT organized a free eye checkup camp for around 50 beneficiary women working in our tailoring and embroidery projects. These women spend long hours focusing on minute details which often causes headaches and watery eyes. As they are saddled with multiple responsibilities and worry about everyone else, they tend to neglect their own health. We decided to step in and conduct this camp to promote awareness about eye care. Qualified optometrists from Kakubhai Opticians also checked the women for cataract and other deficiencies. Many of them opted for spectacles which are now helping them work smoothly.

ACT Women in Italy:

Nasreen's visit to Rome for a Creative Design Garment Workshop: On 1st July 2019, Nasreen, Donna Operations Coordinator, along with the team of 'I WAS A SARI' visited Rome, Italy, for discussions on an ongoing project with Gucci. The project is a collaboration between Gucci's CSR platform and 2nd Innings Handicrafts. Through this project, 'I WAS A SARI' is committed to transferring the knowledge and skills to Donna artisans and Nasreen plays the catalyst for Donna artisans in the centre.

Green Carpet Awards @ Milan:

A great honour and experience for Donna artisans - Rubina and Rukhsar to visit Italy and attend the Green Carpet Awards with the founder of 'I WAS A SARI' Stefano Funari and managing trustee of ACT, Nivedita Desai. Rubina and Rukhsar belong to a conservative family and for them to step outside of their home away from all responsibilities was a life-changing experience. When I WAS A SARI was presented the Responsible Disruption Award at Green Carpet Awards in Milan, Stefano ensured to acknowledge the efforts of the artisans by inviting them to share the stage while receiving the award. We thank our vocational training partners for Project Saksham in collaboration with IDFC First Bank and Income Generation Support Project Donna in collaboration with Pianoterra Foundation, for sowing the seeds of vocational skill and empowerment among hundreds of women like Rubina and Rukhsar.

ACT runs the Mumbai Marathon:

As the running trend in India continues unabated, Tata Mumbai Marathon has emerged as the biggest platform for philanthropy and for the fifth year, we continue to partner with United Way of Mumbai to raise funds for various charitable causes through charity bibs and fundraisers! Thank you, changemakers, for helping us maximize the TMM 2020 philanthropy platform. Three of our adolescent girls from Adivasi villages of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Tejal, Asha and Jayashree, have been sponsored to participate in the 10 KM category and we invite you to cheer them towards victory and enable them to become great role models for their community.
